An ex Burton Albion footballer has been jailed after being convicted of rape.

Cameroonian Patrick Ada, 27, who had denied the charge, was sentenced to five years at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police said the rape had taken place in Southwark, south-east London. on 1 March, 2012.

The Npower League Two club said Ada had been signed for one season shortly before his arrest and released from the club at the end of his contract.

Ada, who also formerly played for Crewe Alexandra, Kilmarnock and Histon, went on to be signed by Blue Square Bet Premier Division club Ebbsfleet United, who said his contract "has now been terminated".
