Arrest after Rugeley hit-and-run crash

A man has been arrested after a woman in her 70s was left with life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run crash in Staffordshire.

The crash happened in Church Street, in Rugeley, shortly before 07:25 GMT.

Staffordshire Police said the female pedestrian was hit by a dark-coloured vehicle which failed to stop at the scene.

Officers said a 31-year-old local man had been arrested in connection with the incident and a vehicle was seized.

The woman was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with serious head and leg injuries.

Police urged any witnesses to contact them.
