Drivers were delayed for up to two and a half hours on the M6 motorway after a fire broke out on a double decker bus.

Fire crews were called to the hard shoulder between junction 15, for Stoke-on-Trent, and 14, near Stafford, at about 07:30 GMT.

The southbound carriageway was closed and partially reopened at 08:35 before fully reopening at 13:35.

The northbound carriageway was affected by smoke crossing the motorway. It was closed for 15 minutes from 08:05.

Four fire engines were deployed to the scene.

Appliances from Longton, Hanley, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stone went to the motorway.
