Redditch Halifax bank worker held over £700,000 theft

A man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing £700,000 from cash machines at the bank where he worked.

Halifax said the allegations, involving an employee at its Redditch branch in Worcestershire, came to light following an internal investigation.

The bank said no customer accounts had been affected.

West Mercia Police said a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft, fraud and money laundering on 8 August and had been released on bail.

In a statement, Halifax said: "We continue to assist the police with their inquiries. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

Officers said they believed the thefts happened between September 2011 and July 2012.
