More meetings for views on new rail flyover near Stafford

Public views are being sought in a fourth round of consultations to improve track layout near Stafford.

Last year, plans were announced for a new flyover to take Birmingham to Manchester trains up and over the main line rather than across it.

The route proposal was announced in November 2010, with the aim of easing congestion on the West Coast Mainline.

Network Rail said separating the path of train services would allow more trains to run on the route.

Some local residents and landowners have previously disagreed with the proposed route.

Dominic Baldwin, from Network Rail, said a small number of property owners would be affected.

The company said a second round of public consultation was held in October last year followed by a third in April to explore details about construction, road diversions and footpath alterations.

The next series of meetings will be held in Chebsey, Norton Bridge, Great Bridgeford, Yarnfield, Stone and Stafford from Monday 18 June through to Friday 29 June.
