Man, 58, charged after Abbey Hulton attack on woman

A Staffordshire man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was attacked near a school.

Staffordshire Police said a 49-year-old woman was found with "puncture wounds" on Abbey Road, Abbey Hulton, on Monday.

Police said she was in a "stable condition" at University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

George Simpson, 58, of Beverley Drive, Stoke-on-Trent, appeared at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court in Fenton, earlier.

Insp Shaun Kerrigan said: "It's believed the man and woman involved are known to each other.

"This was an isolated incident which was not linked to the local primary school, near where it happened."

Mr Simpson has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court next month.
