Roads death toll rises in Staffordshire

The number of people killed on Staffordshire's roads went up in 2011, according to figures released by the county council.

There were 38 deaths last year - an increase of seven from 2010 - although the council said it was still the second lowest total for a decade.

Some 144 road incidents were recorded in 2011 compared to 171 in 2010.

The council said "maintaining and improving safety on our roads" was a priority.
