Two people have been arrested after the sudden death of an 18-month-old boy in Stoke-on-Trent.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to a house on Woodgate Street in Meir at 10:05 GMT on Friday.

The boy was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, but later died.

Staffordshire police said they were treating the death as unexplained and a 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman had been arrested.

A spokeswoman said officers had been carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

A post-mortem examination was due to be held on Saturday.
