Stoke-on-Trent council to stop maintaining Tunstall pool
Stoke-on-Trent City Council says it will stop maintaining a swimming pool after failing to find someone to take it over.
Grade II listed Tunstall pool closed in March as part of budget cuts. The council said it would save £82,000.
A campaign to reopen it as a community-run pool was launched but but efforts to raise £85,000 faltered.
The council said the pool pumps were now likely to be turned off after no new business plan had been found.
Last week, campaigners said they were abandoning their plans.
Councillor Gwen Hassall, cabinet member for housing and neighbourhoods, said: "Since the pool closed earlier in the year we have looked at a number of business plans but for a variety of reasons none of them have materialised into a fully workable solution.
"We now expect that the pumps at the pool will be turned off in the near future to reduce unnecessary running costs."
