A new £14m health centre has opened in Stoke-on-Trent.

The new Cobridge Community Health Centre includes a community health centre, two GP practices and a sexual health unit.

A Sexual Assault Referral Centre to serve the whole of Staffordshire will also open there next year.

The Stoke-on-Trent Primary Care Trust (PCT) said it expected about 100,000 patients to use the new centre each year.

Graham Urwin, chief executive of the Staffordshire Cluster of PCTs, said: "A whole range of services means people will no longer have to travel to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire."

Bernard Wragg, chairman of the local residents' association, said: "It will be a fantastic facility and I really hope that this will help to kick-start the regeneration of the area."

An official opening is planned for later this year.
