Cameron announces enterprise zone for Staffordshire

Business leaders have welcomed the prime minister's confirmation that North Staffordshire is being made an enterprise zone later this year.

David Cameron made the announcement on Thursday on a visit to Portmeirion's factory in Stoke-on-Trent.

Bryan Carnes, chief executive of North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce, said the move could lead to the creation of 3,000 manufacturing jobs.

The area originally missed out when enterprise zones, such as Manchester Airport, were created after the Budget in March.
