South Yorkshire Police officer on 15-year-old girl sex charge

A South Yorkshire Police officer has appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court charged with causing a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.

Daniel Cookson, 27, who was based in Rotherham, was suspended when he was arrested in November 2013, South Yorkshire Police said.

The offence allegedly occurred between March and November 2013.

Mr Cookson was released on bail to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 11 September, court staff said.

Police said Mr Cookson was charged on 21 August.
