A convicted kidnapper who absconded from a secure mental health unit in Doncaster has been found by police.

David Burslam, 49, was on an escorted trip to the town centre from Cheswold Park Hospital when he fled on Thursday.

He was found at a hospital in Macclesfield, Cheshire, early on Friday, South Yorkshire Police said.

In 2009, Burslam was given an indeterminate sentence for kidnapping a bank manager after being released from a mental health hospital in Hull.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "He was found at around 3am today and detained. No harm had come to him, or any other person, during the time he was missing."
