Several injured in Sheffield police van crash

Several people have been injured in a collision involving a car and a police van transporting a suspect.

It happened on Abbeydale Road in Sheffield at about 23:30 BST on Sunday, South Yorkshire Police said.

A 24-year-old woman driving a red Peugeot 207 and a 28-year-old woman who was in the police van were both seriously injured in the crash.

Three police officers in the van and two 24-year-old men in the car also received minor injuries.

A force spokeswoman said the 28-year-old woman had earlier been arrested on suspicion of assault and was being transported in the van, which had its blue lights flashing at the time.

She has since been discharged from hospital and released into police custody.
