A one-year-old boy was critically injured when the car he was travelling in hit a tree in Doncaster.

The child was in a silver BMW when it left the road and hit with a tree in Askern Road, Carcroft, at about 19.30 GMT on Tuesday.

South Yorkshire Police said a 20-year-old female passenger was seriously injured and the 29-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A force spokesman said the boy, from Doncaster, sustained "life threatening injuries" and was taken to hospital where he remains in a "critical condition".

The woman, also from Doncaster, remains in hospital as well, he said.
