Declan Cooper admits attempted rape of 'complete stranger'

A man has admitted attempting to rape a "complete stranger" as she walked home from work in Sheffield.

Declan Cooper, 19, of Shirehall Road, also pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the 50-year-old in the Hatfield House Lane attack on 9 August.

He was remanded in custody at Sheffield Crown Court and is due to be sentenced on 23 December.

Det Con Tom Ryan said Cooper had "pounced on the woman" and subjected her to "a horrific attack".

He added that he was "pleased" the 19-year-old had pleaded guilty and "saved his victim the further trauma of going through a trial".
