Holmfirth animal barn fire sees pigs shot by vet

Fire crews are tackling a fire at a pig barn near Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

More than 25 firefighters from West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire were called to Martin's Nest Farm, in Grime Lane, late on Tuesday night.

A number of pigs had to be shot by a vet following the fire, a spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

Crews are expected to remain at the scene throughout the day. It is not yet known what caused the fire.
