Child uncovers hand grenade in South Yorkshire garden

A child has uncovered a hand grenade in the garden of a house in South Yorkshire.

The device was dug up in Thurnscoe near Barnsley on Tuesday evening.

Police were called and the grenade was removed from the property at Merrill Road at about 19:30 BST.

Officers said it appeared the hand grenade was old but it was not clear how long it had been buried. South Yorkshire Police said the device would be destroyed by bomb disposal experts.
