More than 300 jobs are to be lost at Doncaster Council as part of efforts to save almost £26m.

The cuts were announced as part of budget proposals approved by the council's cabinet for 2013-14.

The authority also plans to close a children's centre at Finningley and increase home care and day care fees for the elderly.

Mayor Peter Davies said council tax would remain frozen for the third year in a row.

The authority said 308 full time posts were expected to go, on top of 800 already cut in the previous year's savings.

A council report said: "The scale of the reductions over the four years mean staff reductions are inevitable.

"It is currently estimated that delivering the 2013/14 proposals will involve around 308 reductions."

The council said compulsory redundancies would be the last resort and it would look to cut vacant posts and seek volunteers.

Other changes include introducing parking charges in Mexborough and residents' parking permits.

The council report added: "The majority of the savings will be achieved by the council being more efficient, generating additional income and due to reduced demand for services."

The council's gross budget for 2013/14 is £483m.
