Doncaster snowball calls prompt police warning

Police have issued a warning after receiving 80 calls about snowball throwing in Doncaster in three hours.

A spokesman said some of Monday night's incidents were believed to have involved people who acted with intent to intimidate or harm others.

Supt Eddie Murphy said: "We do not want to stop people enjoying the snow.

"However, incidents of anti-social behaviour or criminal damage will be investigated and those responsible will be dealt with appropriately."

Drivers have been warned of fog and ice across many parts of South Yorkshire as freezing temperatures continue.

A Met Office yellow warning of icy stretches on untreated road surfaces remains in place for the county.

The Met Office warning comes after Monday's snow, as much as 18cm (7in) in places, caused widespread disruption.

With temperatures set to stay below zero for most of the week, councils said their gritting teams would be working to keep major routes clear.
