Alan Greaves Mr Greaves was on his way to church to play the organ when he was attacked

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of church organist Alan Greaves on Christmas Eve.

Mr Greaves, 68, of High Green, Sheffield, died three days after he was attacked while walking to St Saviour's Church for Midnight Mass.

South Yorkshire Police said the man they had arrested was from the High Green area of Sheffield.

Two men previously arrested in connection with the murder have been released on bail by police.

Det Supt Matt Fenwick, the senior investigating officer, said the arrest followed an "excellent public response" to an appeal for new information and the release of CCTV images on Monday.

He added enquiries were continuing and reiterated his appeal to people in Sheffield to continue to come forward with information.
