Man dies in crash after collapsing at wheel on M1

A man died in a crash after collapsing at the wheel of his car on the M1 in South Yorkshire.

The accident happened at junction 33 on the southbound carriageway in Rotherham at 11:00 GMT on Saturday.

After the 77-year-old collapsed, his female passenger pulled the handbrake but the car hit the central barrier and overturned, South Yorkshire Police said.

The man, from Liversedge in West Yorkshire, suffered fatal injuries.

The 72-year-old passenger, also from Liversedge, suffered bruising and was treated at Rotherham District General Hospital.
