Sheffield TV station licence reconfirmed by Ofcom

Ofcom has reconfirmed the awarding of a local TV licence to Sheffield Local Television (SLTV) following a review of the decision.

The media regulator said it reconsidered the bid after "small errors in the consideration of the applications" came to light last week.

SLTV was awarded a 12-year licence to provide the digital terrestrial service last October.

The organisation said it hoped to start broadcasting in late 2013.

SLTV is a consortium involving two Sheffield universities, local film-makers and media festival organisers. It beat two other applicants to win the licence.

Steve Buckley, SLTV chairman, said the company had spent "an anxious week waiting for the decision".

"We are relieved and reassured that they have retaken this in our favour", he said.

"We were confident that we were the strongest applicant for the licence."
