Margaret Hobson Mrs Hobson died from multiple stab wounds

A man who stabbed his mother to death at their Sheffield home has been detained in a secure hospital.

Margaret Hobson, 57, died from multiple stab wounds after the attack at her home in Lister Road, Walkley, in May.

Her son Scott Hobson, 32, also of Lister Road, denied murder at Sheffield Crown Court.

He has been detained indefinitely under the 1983 Mental Health Act after prosecutors accepted a guilty plea to manslaughter.

In a statement issued at the time of her death, Mrs Hobson's husband Michael said she was a "much-loved, caring and thoughtful wife, mother and grandmother".

He added: "She brought so much joy to all our lives and will be sorely missed."
