Huge fire at waste disposal firm in Sheffield

Dozens of firefighters have tackled a fire involving several tonnes of refuse at a waste disposal firm in South Yorkshire.

Six crews were called to Veolia on Tinsley Park Road in the Attercliffe area of Sheffield at about 9:50 BST.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was inside a building at the premises and had not spread to the building itself.

Staff were evacuated. The fire service said no-one had been injured.

A fire service spokesman said the fire was "deep seated within the rubbish" and that crews had taken water from a nearby canal to douse the flames.

Tinsley Park Road had been closed.
