Blaze destroys Barnsley farmer's wheat

Firefighters damping down in the field Fire crews were damping down in the field on Saturday

Firefighters in South Yorkshire have been called out to a large fire which has destroyed a field of wheat.

Six crews were sent to tackle the fire on a five-acre field off Wood Lane in Carlton, Barnsley, on Friday night.

Some firefighters returned to the field on Saturday morning to continue damping down as hay bales were still smouldering.

South Yorkshire Fire Service said it was investigating the cause of the blaze.
