A man has been jailed for six years after stabbing to death a 36-year-old man in South Yorkshire.

A murder trial at Sheffield Crown Court was halted on Wednesday after Gary McKeown pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter.

McKeown, 37, of Church Street, Thurnscoe, near Barnsley, stabbed Philip Smith several times in an attack on 28 January.

Police had told the court they found a collection of knives at McKeown's home.

Following Mr Smith's death, his family issued a statement, saying he was a "much loved member of a large family and we will never forget him".
