A woman has been charged with the murder of a teenager who was stabbed to death in a South Yorkshire park.

Casey-Lyanne Kearney, 13, died after she was attacked in Elmfield Park, Doncaster, on Tuesday.

Police confirmed Hannah Bonser, 26, of Cusworth House, Doncaster, has been charged with murder.

She is also charged with two counts of possession of a knife and is expected to appear before Doncaster magistrates on Thursday.

Casey-Lyanne, from Rossington, was on her way to meet a friend when she was stabbed at about 13:15 GMT.

She managed to call police herself to say she had been attacked and was treated at the scene in Elmfield Park by police and paramedics before being taken by ambulance to hospital.

'Shocked and saddened'

Police said medics had worked "tirelessly" to save Casey-Lyanne but she died at 21:25 GMT.

Catherine Brown, head teacher at McAuley Catholic High School, said staff and fellow pupils had been "shocked and saddened" to hear about the teenager's death.

She added: "Casey was a valued member of her form and year group and will be sadly missed by friends, pupils and staff.

"We are all thinking of her family and friends at this time."

Ms Brown said pupils arriving back at school on Monday would be given "appropriate support".
