The new Archdeacon of Doncaster has been announced as the Reverend Steve Wilcockson.

Mr Wilcockson will replace the Venerable Bob Fitzharris when he retires at the end of the year.

Dr Steven Croft, Bishop of Sheffield, said that Mr Wilcockson would bring "significant experience" to the new role.

"He is used to working with a great variety of church traditions and in many different contexts," he added.

Mr Wilcockson spent several years training clergy in north India and east Africa before becoming parish development officer in the Diocese of Chester.

He has preached on every continent, except Antarctica, in his 35 years in the ministry and has university degrees in Law, French and Theology.

Mr Wilcockson starts his job in January 2012.
