Sheffield football fans praised by police after derby

The behaviour of football fans in Sheffield has been praised by police after the city's derby.

Hundreds of additional police officers were put on duty on Sunday in the lead up to the match between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.

Officers made five arrests which they described as "minor public offences".

Insp Jane Forrest said: "Sheffield has very much displayed a healthy rivalry to the sport and there has been a really great atmosphere."

The teams played at Bramall Lane in the League One game to a crowd of over 28,000 which ended 2-2.

A big screen showing the game to a crowd of over 11,000 was shown at Hillsborough stadium, were police were also deployed.

Insp Forrest, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "I'm very proud of the people of Sheffield and proud to be one of them."
