A pub has been shut down and six people arrested following a series of police raids in part of Somerset.

The arrests were made when officers forced their way into properties in Midsomer Norton and Radstock.

The Stones Cross in Midsomer Norton was closed down because police suspected drug use and the handling of stolen goods on the premises.

Six bags of suspected cocaine were also recovered as part of the "lengthy intelligence-led" operation.

Insp Shirley Eden, from Avon and Somerset Police, said many people believed drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour did not affect rural areas.

"The reality is that drugs are a serious problem here and we are determined to do whatever we can to disrupt the system and bring to justice all those who are pedalling drugs and profiting from their crime," she added.
