Man, 42, drowns after falling into River Avon in Bath

A 42-year-old man has drowned after falling into the River Avon in Bath.

A member of the public called Avon and Somerset Police to say a man had fallen into the water by Norfolk Crescent at about 22:00 BST on Friday.

The unnamed man was pulled from the water and taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

A spokesman for the force said the area was cordoned off for officers to examine the scene.

Last year an 850-yard fence was installed along a stretch of the river to improve water safety following several fatalities.
