The site of a hotel destroyed by fire five years ago is to be redeveloped after winning planning consent.

Businessman Derek Mead will now be able to build 59 flats, YMCA accommodation and a games room on the old Highbridge Hotel land.

Fire broke out at the hotel in 2008 and, after a second fire, only the Grade II-listed frontage was left.

A range of planning conditions have been attached to the consent by Sedgemoor District Council.
