A new support group for young carers has been launched in Portishead in Somerset.

The service, funded by Crossroads Care North Somerset and Portishead's Rotary and Youth Centre, is open to young people aged five to 18.

A support group will meet once a fortnight to offer advice and guidance

A Crossroads Care spokesperson said: "Children with caring responsibilities often miss out on the opportunities that other children take for granted."

She added: "Many struggle at school and are often bullied for being 'different.'

"Without support they can become isolated and with no relief from their responsibilities at home, there is the risk that they can miss out on a childhood altogether."

The Crossroads Care Association is a national charity set up to assist and support carers across England and Wales.
