Almost £25,000 was collected at this year's Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival following a change of night.

The event was changed from Friday to Saturday in an attempt to make the event more popular with families.

Organisers said the decision had been taken to try to stem the fall in charity donations, which hit a 10-year low in 2010 of £21,000.

In 2011, this figure increased to £21,114 and this year the collection topped £24,565 - up by £3,451.

Historically the carnival was staged on the Thursday closest to 5 November but moved to a Friday in 2001.

In 2011, organisers took the decision to move it to a Saturday.
