A youth centre in Somerset facing closure as part of council cut backs has been saved.

Wiveliscombe Youth Centre was included as part of Somerset County Council's cuts to youth services which hoped to save £2.25m over three years.

The centre has been taken on by the 10 Communities Youth Group.

Chairman Eddie Gaines said if it had closed it would have been terrible for young people as there was not much in the area to entertain them.

"We're about 10 miles away from Taunton and seven from Wellington so they haven't got the opportunity to go out to cinemas, ten-pin bowling or BMX tracks for instance," he said

"We've secured all the equipment the council had collected for youth club activities and this includes film making equipment, laptops and musical equipment which we can now use with the support of youth workers."
