A man has admitted threatening to blow up his camper van to disrupt the Olympic torch relay through Somerset.

Magistrates in Taunton were told that Darren Cole, 40, of no fixed address, made the threat in a phone call to The Sun newspaper.

The prosecution said the former soldier told a reporter on 20 May he intended to blow up his van in Taunton town centre before the relay came through.

His lawyer claimed that Cole never intended to go through with the threat.

Magistrates adjourned the case for psychiatric reports to be prepared.

Cole was remanded in custody until 29 June.
