A30 through Yeovil in Somerset to undergo £3m revamp

An award of £3m has been made to improve a stretch of the A30 through Yeovil in Somerset.

The Department for Transport has awarded Somerset County Council the money to improve the road around Yeovil District Hospital and police station.

The scheme will include widened junctions and signalled roundabouts to help the town cope with its growing population.

"This is more fantastic news for south Somerset," said Councillor David Hall.

He added: "This takes the amount of investment secured and invested in major projects by Somerset County Council past £70m in the last year, including £31m from the government to help provide 'superfast' broadband and a further £4m for the A358 road improvements.

"In addition to improvements to the A30, we will continue to press the government for the widening of priority sections of the A303 to give the Somerset economy another boost."
