Cyclist from Somerset 'may have been hit by car'

A woman from Somerset who had missing for eight hours and was found injured in a ditch may have been knocked off her bicycle, police said.

Officers were called by her husband after the woman in her 40s, and from Merriott, failed to turn up to work.

The woman had gone cycling earlier and there were concerns she had been involved in an accident.

She was found at the bottom of a 20ft (6.1m) ditch suffering from hypothermia with injuries to her leg.

Detectives said they believed the woman may have been knocked off her bicycle by a black car and urged anyone who saw the incident to contact them.

A spokesman said finding the woman had been "challenging" during bad weather.

He said she had been reported missing at 1745 GMT on 19 November and the last signal from her mobile phone showed she was somewhere between Merriott and Dinnington.

She was taken to Yeovil District Hospital for treatment.
