A swan, which had been trampled by cattle, was rescued from a lake in Somerset after getting into difficulty in the water.

Volunteers from wildlife rescue charity Secret World were called to the village of Lympsham by a resident who had spotted the bird on Saturday.

A rescue boat crew from Burnham-on-Sea were called to help reach the injured creature.

The bird had suffered a broken leg and was taken to a vet for treatment.
