Four hundred tonnes of hay has been lost in a large barn fire in south Shropshire.

Firefighters from across the county and Herefordshire spent the night tackling the blaze on a farm at Oreton, near Cleobury Mortimer.

At its height, five crews were involved, and Shropshire Fire and Rescue said firefighters were likely to be at the scene for most of the day.

A spokesperson said once safe, fire investigators would be brought in.

It follows a spate of farm fires in Shropshire last month that saw barns and fields destroyed in Tong, Minsterley and near to The Wrekin.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had also dealt with two arson attacks in Pontesbury since the weekend.
