Shropshire relative recall World War One romance

5 August 2014 Last updated at 20:21 BST

Thousands of women answered the call of duty during World War One, and for one Shropshire woman it led to her meeting the love of her life although there was to be no happy ending.

Emmie Chester left her home in Shrewsbury for France, working for the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps in 1917.

Sue Davies, Ms Chester's great niece, said she met an Australian there called Mack.

But as their romance flourished, she was unexpectedly called back to England, as Bob Hockenhull reports.
