Work has started on a scheme to turn a section of waterway, hidden in piping for more than 40 years, into a brook.

Part of Mad Brook was previously piped during the creation of Telford, Shropshire, in the 1960s.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Telford & Wrekin Council aim to create about 100m of watercourse in open space to the south of Stirchley Pools.

A section of the same watercourse will also be re-established downstream of Brookside Avenue.

Cabinet member for development Charles Smith said: "The aim for this project is to improve both water quality and biodiversity in the Mad Brook."
