Woman 'drove wrong way up M54'

A woman in her 70s was taken to hospital after allegedly driving the wrong way up the M54, police have said.

West Mercia Police said they were alerted to the car at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday by other motorists.

Police said the Citroen C3 had headed the wrong way along the eastbound carriageway of the M54 and the A5 towards Shrewsbury.

They said the car had been involved in a crash with a stationary vehicle on Lyth Hill Road.

A second car swerved to avoid a collision but police said nobody had been injured.

The woman was taken to hospital to be checked for injuries. No arrests have been made.
