A new Gypsy site is to be set up in Telford in a bid to reduce the number of illegal camps in the area.

Telford & Wrekin Council said the site near the Snedshill industrial estate will be ready by September and an existing site at Lodge Road, Donnington will be extended.

Is it hoped a third site will be set up in the future.

The authority said they aim to cut down on illegal camps, particularly at Stafford Park and Halesfield.

Councillor Charles Smith said: "We have a statutory duty to provide accommodation for [Gypsies] but this has been difficult because of a lack of available sites, much of the land in Telford is not under the council's control."
