New £4.7m primary school to be built in Lawley

A new £4.7m primary school could be built in Shropshire to meet the needs of a new estate, a council has said.

Telford and Wrekin Council said the Ironstone housing development in Lawley would include about 3,300 new homes when finished.

It said developers Ironstone Management Services had agreed to pay £3.6m towards the school's building costs.

The school, which is expected be an academy, is due to start with 210 pupils, rising to 420.

The council said Lawley Primary and Newdale Primary schools had been extended to cope with demand, but a new school would be needed as more homes were built.

The plans are due to be discussed at a meeting on Thursday
