Building trade workers are being invited to submit bids to work on Shrewsbury's historic flax mill.

A £12.8m bid has been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund to help restore the Grade I-listed Ditherington Flax Mill, built in 1797.

If successful, work could begin in September and Wates Construction has been appointed as the lead contractor.

A firm spokesperson said it will sub-contract work locally and interest has been coming in "thick and fast."

Last May the Heritage Lottery Fund gave its initial backing for the scheme and awarded it more than £465,000 to develop detailed plans.

It is due to make a final decision on the main bid in July.
