Muller butter plant: Market Drayton gets £17m investment

A new £17m butter-manufacturing plant is to be built in Shropshire.

Muller Wiseman has announced it will build the facility at its site in Market Drayton.

The company told a dairy conference in Glasgow the new plant should be operating by the autumn.

Muller is based in Germany and makes yoghurts and potted desserts. It took over Britain's biggest fresh milk company, Robert Wiseman, last January in a deal worth almost £280m.

The company told the Semex UK conference it would begin a recruitment drive in the spring in a bid to find more dairy farmers to support the processing of cream and production of butter.
