Gas leak closes Telford primary school

A gas leak caused staff and children to be moved from a school building.

The leak occurred at St Matthews Primary School in Donnington, Telford, Shropshire earlier.

Headteacher Kate Clark said staff arriving at work complained of a "very strong" smell of gas and gates were immediately locked to stop children arriving.

The school is closed for the rest of the day but Ms Clark said she hoped it would be open on Friday.

Year Six pupils who were already in the building were led away.

The internal school building is safe but emergency services were trying to find the source of the leak, she said.
