Shrewsbury canal death man Guy Benson Bebbington was 'free spirit'

Tributes have been paid to a 43-year-old Shropshire man who died after an attack on a canal footpath in Shrewsbury.

Guy Benson Bebbington was found between Ditherington Road and Telford Way at about 01:00 BST last Friday.

He later died in hospital. Two men have been charged with his murder.

Mr Bebbington's family described him as a "kind and generous free spirit" who enjoyed roaming the countryside writing poetry and music.

'Senseless death'

Tricia Nicholson said her son, known as Ben, also enjoyed busking in Shrewsbury.

"He told me he always felt very lonely and busking was his way of helping him feel less so," she said.

In a statement, the family described him as a "very loved son, brother and uncle", who "encouraged friendship wherever he went ".

They added that friends and family alike were suffering "complete shock and anger at what has happened" and were struggling to come to terms with Ben's "senseless death".

Stewart Doran, 21, from Bainbridge Green, Harlescott, Shrewsbury and Bradley Davies, 18, of no fixed abode, have been charged with his murder and are due to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Monday.
